An awesome and nerdy video made me smile today

The following hard-core science rock video was entirely made and sung by a 23 year old Canadian man named Tim Blais. Man, THIS is talent! I don’t understand much of it, which shows how far Physics has come since I was in college.

I got to this video through the NPR site.

A widget made me smile today

I love names! Do you have a name common when you were born? According to this cool widget, my name peaked the year before I was born. No wonder there were so many sharing my name in my classes!

I got some funny results. Our very rare last name turned out to be translated as “though” in Swati, a Bantu language spoken in Swaziland and South Africa;!

To Ponder

From twitter: Question from David today —> How would you explain to someone if they asked “How do you find peace in a crazy world?” (ks)

First, you can’t consider all the craziness in the world your responsibility. So often when I am upset about something, it is because I’m not in control of it.

Second, breathe. This is something I don’t do enough, but if I took some calming breaths before reacting more, I would be in a much better place.

Third, have a happy place in your own mind or a physical place. This can be a place where you breathe, pray, meditate, gaze on nature, or whatever. Just leave it all behind you.

There are more 🙂

A few years ago, the boyfriend of a friend caused a horrible accident. He was a good man, he had no ill intent, but because of him a young woman was brain dead. The family, understanding that it was an accident, did not press charges.

But still he felt terrible. He needed to work through that grief. My friend, his girlfriend kept telling him he had done nothing wrong and he kept saying, no, I killed that girl.

I told my friend at the time that it was not supporting him to deny that what had happened was terrible, that he was–completely without intention–at fault. That what he needed was for her to say, I see what happened and it was wrong. The family has forgiven you, I have forgiven you, how I can I help you forgive yourself?

That’s a good metaphor for what I’m going through right now.

Organizing Digital Scrapbooking Supplies – A new tutorial!

It has been a while since I updated my digital scrapbooking information page but based on a request I’ve written up how I organize my digital scrapbooking supplies. DS102-1 Organizing Digital Scrapbooking Supplies talks about how I organize my thousands and thousands of bits and bobs, papers and alphas both using operating system folders and the database program ACDSee Photo Manager. It’s not meant to be a commercial for ACDSee, but I honestly couldn’t do it any other way that I’ve found.

Anyway, thanks to Valerie, HawaiiArchAngel for the suggestion!

Caravan: Week 2 Thrive

Just a quick post to document my process. Love this week’s focus word, Thrive. I want to do another page on my cat’s purrs and my husband’s laughter (and maybe David’s singing?) but my first thought is that when I’m really learning, I’m thriving. Need to do more! Want to! Gah! So much to do, so little time….
